In what format are the Naxos AudioBooks downloads?

The downloads are 48 kbps MP3 files. They are encoded in mono at 24 kHz. They do not use any DRM or encryption. Stereo dramas are encoded as 96 kbps stereo MP3 files.

The downloads are delivered in a ZIP archive. Most computers should be able to extract the ZIP archive by double clicking on it. Inside the folder will be the MP3 files, a digital booklet (in PDF format), and a license agreement document.


What is the audio quality of the Naxos AudioBooks downloads?

The audio quality is excellent – please download our sample file which will demonstrate this.

Naxos AudioBooks uses a higher bit-rate than many other audiobook download providers to ensure the best possible audio quality, whilst keeping the file size reasonably small.

All the downloads are individually custom encoded from the original digital masters using the latest high quality algorithms.


Can I play them on my MP3 player?

Can I put these MP3s on my Nokia, Sony Ericsson, or other mobile phone?

If I stop the MP3 during playback, will my player start again in the same place?

The downloads are encoded as separate MP3s for each chapter/section, and in such a way that they will pick up where they were stopped when played on an iPod or in iTunes. Many other MP3 players also support this feature: please download our sample file to check the compatibility of your player with this feature.


If my card is declined, what should I do?

Can I use a credit card from any country to buy a download?

If there is a break during the downloading, how can I resume?

Our download server supports the ‘resume’ function of browsers such as Apple’s Safari and Mozilla’s Firefox, although because of the way our links are configured, the availability of this function cannot be guaranteed. Alternatively, you may restart the download using the links provided. The link will work for seven days after purchase.


How big is each download, and how long will it take to download?

The downloads equate to approximately 20 MB per hour of audio. As complete downloads can be very large, it is strongly recommended that you have a broadband Internet connection – a dial-up connection is not recommended.

A five-hour audiobook might take around ten minutes to download via a 1Mbit/s broadband connection.


Do they include a booklet?

Each download from Naxos AudioBooks includes a digital booklet, supplied in PDF format. To read this, you will need PDF reading software, such as Adobe® Reader® (available free from adobe.com).


When the MP3 has downloaded to my computer, how do I get it into iTunes and then to my iPod?

Can I burn what I have downloaded them on to MP3 CDs and play them in the car?

Providing your car audio equipment can play our downloads (please download our sample file to check compatibility with your player), and you have the relevant software, you should be able to create your own MP3 CDs from your download purchases.

Please remember when you purchase a download from Naxos AudioBooks, you are licensed to use the file(s) for your own personal, non-commercial use, and are not permitted to distribute, lend, broadcast, or share the files with anyone else.

Naxos AudioBooks does not offer support for burning MP3 CDs.


Can I pass my downloads on to my friends?

No. When you purchase a download from Naxos AudioBooks, you are licensed to use the file(s) for your own personal, non-commercial use, and you are not permitted to distribute, lend, broadcast, or share the files with anyone else.


If I delete them by mistake, can I get them again?

When you purchase a download, you are given a link to the files to download. The link will work for seven days, after which time you will no longer be able to download your purchases.

Please ensure that you back-up your downloads to avoid losing them should your computer fail.


Can I give a download as a gift?

Not currently, though we are looking at offering this service in the future.
