This month we present you with one of the greatest texts in all of human history!
Here at Naxos AudioBooks we have decided to release volumes I, II and III of The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire ahead of schedule. These three audiobooks may now be purchased as digital downloads, with the CD versions to follow in January, March and May.
The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire is regarded as one of the greatest histories in Western literature and continues to appeal to scholars and the general public alike. Gibbon reports on more than a millennium of history, surveying an Empire that extended from the most northern and western parts of Europe to deep into Asia and Africa. Part historical scholar and part storyteller, Gibbon’s style will entice the listener as he vividly captures the events of the time.
Each volume is read by David Timson, who remains undeterred by the length of any work, having read the entire Sherlock Holmes canon for Naxos AudioBooks. He has undertaken this gargantuan task with meticulous preparation, incorporating many of Gibbon’s original footnotes; might we dare say, this may be one of the most outstanding recordings in audiobook history!
Throughout 2014, we will release Decline and Fall in six volumes, as originally published in Gibbon’s lifetime. This will be at regular intervals during the year and will conclude in October.
